Live Album with Hot N Spicy + Mads Mathias
A Gift to Svend Asmussen
Svend Asmussen would have turned 101 in February 2017. One week before his birthday, some of his favorite musicians gathered on stage at Rønnebæksholm Manor near Næstved. This was the first time the trio Hot N Spicy performed with Mads Mathias. The atmosphere at this concert was extraordinary, and the performance was recorded with the intention of sending it to Svend as a birthday gift and a humble thank-you for all the support and inspiration the great mentor had shared over the years. The recording was sent off the next day, but sadly, Svend passed away just a few days later and never had the chance to hear the concert.
However, all the musicians agreed that there was a certain magic in the air that afternoon, and they have now decided to release this sublimely swinging live album.
The repertoire consists of standards reminiscent of Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Ray Charles—and of course, Svend Asmussen.
